Frequently Asked Questions

Is counseling the right choice for me?

We almost always answer this with, YES! Mental health often carries a stigma attached to it, but at Foundations we believe that just as one is encouraged to go to the doctor and exercise regularly for physical health, therapy can be a great tool to support emotional health and well-being.

While in therapy, you will have access to a safe and objective person to talk to about your past, present, or future. Our practice can support you with concerns related to stress, relationships, trauma, anxiety, depression, children's behaviors, and issues related to pregnancy and postpartum- just to name a few!

what do I need to get started?

Contact us today to schedule your first appointment! We understand that finding a therapist that is the right fit is very important. Our Foundations therapists gladly offer a 15 minute phone consultation before your first appointment so you are able to ask questions to ensure a good match!

You will need to bring your ID and any guardianship papers for children if applicable.

What is a typical therapy session like?

45 minutes -1 hour in a comfortable office setting or via our secure video platform. We strive to ensure every person who sits on our couch is treated as an individual, so no two sessions will look alike. We will work to follow your lead and address the issues/goals that are most important to you.

what is play therapy?

"More simply put, child play therapy is a way of being with the child that honors their unique developmental level and looks for ways of helping in the 'language' of the child – play."

-The Association for Play Therapy (www.a4pt.org)

Our therapists have received a variety of training in child development, behavior, trauma, and evidence-based interventions and are equipped to support your child's emotional needs. Our offices include a variety toys and materials to help children explore, cope, and learn new skills.

What insurances do you accept?

Foundations therapists are currently able to accept BCBS of Michigan insurance plans.

Can I use out-of-network benefits?

Yes! If requested, your therapist can provide you with a weekly or monthly summary of services for you to submit to your insurance carrier.

Please note: when using out-of-network benefits fee for services are due at each appointment.

What are the benefits of not using my insurance?

Insurance benefits can be very helpful when accessing mental health services. However, insurances are often restrictive in what they are willing to cover, thus often limiting the services your therapist is able to provide.

Some highly sought after services that we offer at Foundations Therapy Group that are not covered by insurance include:

-Couples and family therapy

-School-based consultations

-Trainings and workshops

-Clinical supervision for LLMSW therapists

-Individual and group Reflective Supervision Consultation for clinicians and educators
